White Supremacy still threatens Puerto Ricans near Orlando, Kissimmee

SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico Buzz) – In case you may have missed it, or forgot already, in 2012 a Federal Bureau of Investigation raid led to the arrest of a neo-Nazi group in Osceola County, FL.

It’s not over.

According to police, as reported by WFTC 9 (ABC), American Front is a militia-styled, anti-Semitic, white supremacist, skinhead organization, that planned a race-based war in Central Florida.

Police records have stated that Marcus Faella, an AF leader, believes the race war will take place in the next few years, and his intentions are to kill Jews, immigrants and other minorities that include Hispanics.

The group was accused of fortifying their premises, stockpiling AK-47 automatic weapons, making ricin (a weapon of mass destruction,) training in para-military tactics and hand-to-hand combat, providing firearms or explosives training with the intention of committing civil disorder, in addition to illegal drug charges.

“So far, only three of the 13 other American Front members in the case have been convicted. Christopher Brooks was sentenced to three years in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; Luke Leger and Kent McLellan were both sentenced to four years of probation after pleading no contest to participating in paramilitary training,” according to the Orlando Sentinel in 2014.

“All charges against the remaining 10 were dropped without explanation after many had been held on bails of up to $500,000 for weeks,” according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Anti-Defamation League says AF is one the largest racist, skinhead groups in Florida, with a long history of violence that includes hate crimes and murder.

In recent years, much of the American Front’s activities have been concentrated in Florida, where the group’s presence has been centered in Orlando and nearby towns, such as Cocoa, Winter Park, Satsuma, and St. Cloud. Some of that activity has been criminal , with members being arrested for several different incidents of vandalism of churches and synagogues, and other crimes. (ADL)

“A number of Florida American Front members have been involved in criminal activity.  It was only in 2010 that McLellan was sentenced to a year in prison after being convicted of vandalizing a local restaurant and church with white supremacist graffiti in 2008.   In May 2010, another Florida American Front member, Christopher Brooks of St. Cloud, pleaded guilty in Virginia for his role in a synagogue vandalism there in 2009.  That same year, Florida American Front member Richard Adam Stockdale served time for battery charges,” according to ADL.

“It’s a bunch of guys and girls sitting around a campfire. While you may not agree with their politics, they certainly were not doing anything illegal,” said Jack Platt, Patricia Faella’s attorney to the Orlando Sentinel.

Rosselló Asks Police Officers to Return to Work

Published

on

(SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico Buzz) – Gov. Ricardo Rosselló asked members of the Puerto Rico Police Department to return to work, Jan. 8.

The massive absenteeism of police officers has been largely attributed to the lack of overtime pay in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, but some say it goes back even further.

“I ask of any partner of the uniformed force that is not attending [work]at this moment – I ask of them to return,” said Rosselló. It’s not just about giving a message about a series of initiatives, but it’s a matter of safety for our people.

Rosselló is currently evaluating how police officers that missed work, will be reprimanded.

“We’re establishing which administrative measures will take place,” said Rosselló. There’s a lot of information that needs to be gathered.

At times, approximately 8,000 police officers have missed worked, out of about 14,000 islandwide.

Police union representatives have said that police officers are using their sick and holiday time available.
